The incense was sprinkled on coals on the golden alter in the main sanctuary. This jar contains some of those herbs and spices. The Talmud tells us that a thousand years after the destruction of the Tabernacle, an old man told Rabbi Yehoshua ben Karcha, “I walked to Shiloh and smelled the fragrance of the incense wafting off the walls.”
